The Challenge
SATS faced several challenges in their ground handling services, particularly in ensuring the proper securing of locks on cargo containers within aircraft holds. Misaligned or unsecured locks can lead to serious operational issues, including the risk of containers shifting during flight, causing damage and safety hazards. Additionally, the manual process of taking photos of the locks and sending them to a centralised officer for verification was time-consuming and prone to errors, impacting overall efficiency and safety.
The Solution
Visiocue proposed an AI-driven solution to automate the detection and verification of lock positions without the need for manual photo checks. Our AI technology integrates seamlessly with one of SATS’s existing apps, to detect lock anomalies in real-time, reducing the need for operators to navigate multiple apps. This approach not only streamlines the workflow but also ensures higher accuracy and faster processing times.
By leveraging AI to automatically detect the correct positioning of locks, we aim to eliminate human errors and enhance safety protocols. Our solution processes images taken by operators and verifies the lock positions instantly, providing immediate feedback. This reduces the need for physical inspections and ensures that all locks are secured properly before takeoff.
Implementation and Results
During our Proof of Concept (PoC) phase, we ingested 600 photos to train our AI model, focusing on detecting lock positions under various conditions, including dim lighting and tight spaces. Our solution demonstrated high accuracy, with false positives and negatives kept under 10%. The AI’s ability to improve incrementally with more data ensured continuous enhancement in performance.
